Safety: “Natural” Does Not Mean Safe

Many people assume that natural ingredients are inherently safer than synthetic ones, but nature is full of toxic substances. Poison ivy, arsenic, and lead are all natural, but no one would argue that they belong in skin care.

Even beneficial natural ingredients can have unpredictable variations in potency that lead to allergic reactions or skin irritation. Essential oils, for example, are often assumed to be gentle but can contain allergens and skin-sensitizing compounds if not properly distilled and tested.

Synthetics, on the other hand, are formulated with precision. Ingredients such as lab-created peptides and retinoids are engineered to provide skin benefits without the inconsistencies and potential contaminants that come with raw botanical extracts. Even naturally derived compounds, like hyaluronic acid and stabilized vitamin C, are often synthetically processed to enhance stability and effectiveness.
