Let's talk about water resistance. Sunscreens in the US, and most places for that matter, are regulated by the same groups which regulate foods and drugs, the FDA in the US. This means there are a lot of rules and brands are only allowed to use certain language when describing their products. When it comes to saying a sunscreen is waterproof, you can’t. What a brand can say is the product is water resistant for 40 or 80 minutes and they can only say this if they prove it. For burnd, we have shown that our SPF 41 broad spectrum is a 41 the minute you put it on and even 80 minutes later after being in the water, it still is.
How do we make burnd SPF 41 so water resistant? This is a pretty complicated answer, but the short story is what's called a reverse emulsion which uses really good and really expensive ingredients. By the way, this is also the reason our users tell us our sunscreen does not run into their eyes. On top of that, we use some of the best formulation experts in the world to make sure it still feels great and goes on easily. Are we the only people on the planet that can do this? No, but we are, in all modesty, the best at it.
